About Us
Our owner graduated with a B.A. in both Bible and communications in 1997, working in Radio as a student for sophomore through senior years in Tennessee market. Since graduation, the owner has worked in Southern Gospel Radio stations, adult contemporary stations, as a producer of syndicated Christian children’s Radio dramas, and concert promotions in the Southern Gospel genre.
Throughout all experiences in radio, one phrase has stuck in mind to govern how this great medium should be approached. That phrase is this… Radio is theatre of the mind.
Radio must be conversational,delivered and received just as if the announcer were sitting in a living room or around a table, having a one-on-one chat. Some of the older listeners may remember what it was like before television. Radio thrived on creating a scene in the minds of the listeners to place you right in the middle of the action. That is one reason we have chosen the music genre we play here on Watering hole Radio. The lyrics provide that connection to you, our listeners, that create that effect, seeing through your mind’s eye what is being communicated. This genre can soothe and comfort, encourage and call the listener to take some sort of action. In short, it becomes real to you.
When Watering hole Radio was first launched, it was to pursue a continuing passion for radio, as well as a means for the owner to be home to care for an almost invalid wife, since deceased. The owner has always loved being around kids, and to this day many who know him insist he still is a kid at heart. With four kids himself, he tells of listening with them going down the road in the family car, listening to great family radio dramas, including ones created by Focus On The Family. Having opportunity between radio jobs, the chance arose for him to produce a radio drama for kids for national syndication, and a new love was added. This love is coming full circle, as Watering hole Radio not only schedules a Saturday kids block of radio dramas and music, but prepares the stations studio for writing and producing our own as well!
But, radio is so much more than music and drama. Our plan, Lord willing, is to connect to our community as well. With the last few decades, as terrestrial stations have been sold and taken over by automation and big conglomerates, the local appeal dissolved. The coverage of school sporting events and other live coverage such as talent shows and the like disappeared. Our dream is to reconnect with the local community by returning to the air with these and other program elements. In today’s busy schedules, it has become harder and harder to show support for the grandchildren, children, nieces and nephews as they compete. This is a high priority for our program director.
Watering hole Radio’s purpose is found in helping each listener start and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Beyond offering wholesome music and entertainment to our listeners, we pray that a song or program will encourage and motivate all ages to action. Join us, encourage us, as we strive to do the same as you struggle in your life journey.
